I'm starting a new series of questions, to name the person featured in the picture. Does anyone know who these fellows are?

Cyril and Methodius?
ReplyDeleteYes Captain, this is a statue of Cyril and Methodius in Devin near Bratislava. There is another statue of them in Nitra as these were the two main centres of the Great Moravian Empire now on Slovak territory. Do you know where there are any Czech statues of them? Perhaps in Uherske Hradiste or Mikulcice, given their connection with Great Moravia?
ReplyDeleteYeah, they're all over the place. There's an especially good one near the Great Moravian Churches at Mikulcice, but as patron saints of Moravia, they're quite common in this eastern part of the Czech Republic.
